Description :

The BASILICA CISTERN is one of the most interesting buildings in Istanbul. It is a large underground water tank, whose storage capacity is 100,000 tons of water. It was built in the sixth century during the reign of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I.

In addition, by visiting the Basilica Cistern of Istanbul from the inside, you will be able to enjoy the wonderful and amazing art of Byzantine sculpture through dozens of huge columns designed and carved with precision, art and mastery, numbering about 336 columns.

You can also see groups of beautiful and colorful fish swimming under your feet.

The Basilica Cistern has a café to serve refreshing drinks and delicious snacks after or during the visit.

Located in the very famous SULTAN AHMET area, just a few steps from HAGIA SOPHIA, THE BLUE MOSQUE and TOPKAPI PALACE, Basilica Cistern is place not to miss for any Istanbul visitor.
