Situated on the Asian side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey’s Üsküdar district’s Beylerbeyi area is the Beylerbeyi Palace (Turkish: Beylerbeyi Sarayı, literally meaning the palace of the bey of beys). Built between 1861 and 1865 as an imperial Ottoman summer palace, it is currently located directly north of the first Bosphorus Bridge. Before his death in 1918, it was the final location Sultan Abdulhamid II was placed under house arrest.
